Deck Staining & Painting

A deck takes more weather than any other part of the house. Stain that's laid over dirt or old, flaking finish peels in a season, so we spend most of the time getting the wood clean and dry before anything goes on.

Clean wood, then color

  1. 01

The deck is washed and old, failing finish is removed where needed.

  2. 02

The wood dries out completely before stain or paint goes on.

  3. 03

We go board by board, including the ends and the rail tops that take the most sun.

Questions we get

Stain or paint?
Stain shows the wood and is easier to refresh down the road; paint covers more and lasts longer on older boards, but it needs more upkeep when it wears. We'll tell you which one your deck is a good fit for.
How often should a deck be redone?
It depends on sun, shade and the product, but most decks want attention every few years. Water that soaks in instead of beading up is the sign.
